About Dr. Gerard T Lombardo, M.D.

Dr. Lombardo has over 20 years experience in the practice of Sleep Medicine.

During this time he founded and directed numerous sleep centers and supervised more than 18,000 sleep studies and consulted on and cared for an equal number of patients in his private practice.  In the role of Medical Director, he has successfully supervised numerous sleep facility accreditation site visits over the span of 15 years.

As a trained pulmonologist, he is well-versed in the physiology of breathing, the most important factor in the diagnosis and treatment of breathing disorders during sleep.  

He broadened his training in sleep medicine at the Sleep Disorder Center at New York Cornell Hospital.

New York City, the “city that never sleeps” provides an ideal vantage point for studying the sleep problems of both blue-collar and white-collar occupations.  

Dr Lombardo has worked closely with New York’s transit workers, treating shift work sleep disorders and insomnia in those who are often responsible for operating the world’s most extensive round-the-clock transportation system.  In addition to sleep testing facility oversight, his sleep disorder practice evaluates and treats approximately 1500 new referrals per year.

He has been a guest on the Regis Philbin Show and appeared on CNN as well as on a variety of cable shows, local news and radio programs, and local publications. In addition to authoring Sleep to Save Your Life (Harper Collins), and numerous scientific publications, he has contributed to key articles on sleep in the Readers Digest, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Daily News.
